So it’s like this…
I did manage to get some stuff done. I mean, I started the day off with the best intentions but then that does not always gurantee that all will be well right?
I am moving the stuff from my old main console to a larger tower case. I just have to find a way to jury rig an extra fan so that I can get more airflow into the case. I think I have an idea that I will try after I finish this entry.
It’s late. 10:48 and I am now on the last stages of the re-installation. All of the hardware is now mounted into the new Full Tower case and I am ghosting the installation for safety. The next step will be to complete the data migration from the old drive to the new drive then I will restore the ghost to the larger drive.
After that I can seal up the case and this box is done! Then project two starts. I have to get Windows 98 SE installed on the kids machine. That one was having all sorts of issues with Win2K on it so I am caving in and installing 98. One concession is that once I get that sucker going I AM going to ghost it too and then burn a copy of the image. Once I get that done then restoring it won’t be as much of a chore.
The concept of ghosting the drive is not really all that uncommon. It’s nothing more than a glorified full backup with a very easy way to restore. Once you have gotten a drive ghosted CD the process of re-installation of the machine is nothing more than popping in a floppy drive and then the CD and the restoration of the information is relatively easy. This DOES NOT keep your data safe. You still have to do some form form of back up in order to keep your day to day stuff safe from harm.
These machines are becoming more and more indispensable as a means of tracking our information. The loss of some files could be quite costly to many people. I know that if we lost our Microsoft Money files I would be in veeeeerrrrry deep shinola.
So, I played tennis today over at Duke’s. I’ll have to bring a camera over there and do some panorama shots so that I can share his yard with you all… It’s a freakin wonder! I know that my back yard is fairly park like, but his is more like a lawn from a hotel. He’s got a really nicely kept tennis court as well as a gazebo and a huge deck area!
So we played something like five or so sets… I seem to recall the following scores: 6-3, 6-0, 6-1, 6-2, 6-1… It was fun! I know I lost but when you get a chance to stretch out the bones It’s never truly a loss. Duke’s a great guy. We’re both struggling with our games but I am catching up. Last year I was hard pressed to win a game off of Duke. Now I am getting my semi-fair share. I think that if I keep up with it I will be able to give him a good run for the money. It’s also a great way to get back into shape.
After all of that playing I was feeling like the victim of a Mac Truck encounter. I hauled my tired ass back home and into a nice hot shower. Hey speaking of which.. You should all give this a try… I have shower doors so it’s somewhat easier but with some ingenuity it can also be done in a regular curtain shower… Run a hot shower and bring a nice frosty cold can of a beverage of your choice. Now after you’ve gotten a chance to acclimate to the hot shower, take a sip of the nice cold bevie… Isn’t that just a joy? I know that it may seem inane but it’s one of those self indulgences that I have allowed myself of late.
Well enough for now… Off to bed. I am gonna finish the backup tomorrow.

Yaaaaaay for the weekend.
Back in one of my favorite environments!
Lesse: What’s the deal today…
1. Try to get the IIS Server to log to a mySQL database
2. develop a private page that will allow the review of IIS Log info
3. Try to get Link Logger to Log to a DB
4. Do some text parsing webpages with PHP and ASP.
5. Back up the old P160 and get Debian on it.
6. Try to get Debian on the old IBM Think pad.
7. Upgrade the Processor on the Webserver.
That’s should be it.
Let’s see how we do shall we?

Gawd!
I have round one of the budget in!
I think we’re doning pretty good and not growing it from last year. I think that I am still going to have to face some hard choices about Oracle though. It’ll be on my mind this weekend as to what my alternate solution will be if I have to crowbar that DB out of the over all system scheme.
I am soooo bone tired. I can literally feel the fatigue in my bones… I really need to do something very physical this weekend to leech it out of my core.
Quite the day today… Lessee… The morning started off by finding out that a segment of the mail server’s connections had gone down and that no one knew about it. Of course the day that this would fail would be the day that there were critical messages that just HAD to get to Head Office. It was to say the least a RUDE awakening to have my CFO asking if there were any problems with the e-mails as he had just gotten his ass chewed off by the group controller. A quick investigation showed that all of the mails destined for that specific domain were infact queued up. Further investigation showed that the server was rebooted yesterday and during that reboot the static routes that had been set for the server via shared batch file did not reconstitute. Upong further checking I found that the batch file that rebuilt the routes had been deleted from the proscribed location on the server. Imagine that…
So, I was faced with a bunch of mail that had to get out and routes that I could not quickly re-construct. I did the expedient thing. I deleted the specific route for the domain and allowed the mails to traverse via the local route and then hunted down the backups. I was lucky that I wa paranoid. I had a back up that If ound rather quickly and got the routes back and then restored the direct route for the Internal Network.
This litte incident led me to what I SHOULD have done all along! Sooo many details and soooo little of me.
Well sauce for the goose. I’ll attend to the final details next week. The next thing I’ll attack will be the building of a database application that will make budgeting MUCH EASIER!
Ugh.

It’s gonna be another busy day…
Lesse… I am gonna try to get all of my budget figures transcribed into the appropriate sheet in the appropriate format and then crank out all of the supporting documentation for it.
I also want to get some prototype of a budget figures gathering application underway today. I think I prototype it in Access.
Hmm…Â
